Networking-Getting Referrals From Unusual Sources
By Renee Erno
When developing
a referral culture within your practice, we ordinarily think first
about gaining physician referrals or patient referrals for increasing
our customer base. Although these sources are indeed important
and when cultivated properly can be a large source of patient
referrals, there may be alternative sources that have yet to be
explored. Some AHAA associates have been turning to other professionals
who see the same population of patients.
Some alternative
referral sources to explore may be: Family or marital counselors
- after all, a common complaint is “he/she doesn’t
listen to me”. Dentists - many have a large senior patient
base. You can discuss with the dentist how you may help identify
patients with TMJ problems and have reciprocal referrals. Not
sure how to find the larger dental practices? Ask your local dental
supply representative. Optometrists/Ophthalmologists - some hearing
professionals have partnered in offering special benefit programs
and reciprocal referrals. Other sources may be Chiropractors,
Gerontologists, Pediatricians, Assisted Living Facilities, Nursing
Homes, Senior Centers, Podiatrists, and Cardiologists. Ask your
regional manager about exploring these potential referral sources
and how to get started building your referral base.
