% of the worlds population is affected by hearing impairment
(Stäfa, Switzerland,
22 February 2001) - Around 15% of the world's population is affected
by hearing impairment. This figure will increase over the next
decade as the percentage of people over 55 rises, as will the
average life expectancy of these individuals. In addition, today's
living and working environments continually threaten the hearing
system of people of all ages with high levels of noise pollution.
Addressing the issue of hearing impairment is key to enabling
over 100 million people worldwide to lead active and fulfilling
lives...
